Why is IPL Photorejuvenation so exciting?
Medical lasers deliver a specific band of light that will generally treat one skin problem. Azura Medical
Spa's IPL Photorejuvenation System delivers a broad band of pulsed light, so they are an alternative to laser
surgery, chemical peels and it has no downtime! Following a treatment, most patients can go back to their usual
activities and can immediately apply make-up. IPL is a safe, non-invasive solution that can be customized to
your individual needs and will provide superior cosmetic results and high levels of satisfaction. After only
the first treatment, skin feels smoother and appears more even toned.
How many and how often?
A series of at least 5 treatments is needed to obtain the best results. Some patients may benefit from
more treatments depending on the severity of the condition treated. Treatments are given 3-4 weeks apart.
Based on the high level of demand for this procedure, many offices are offering inappropriate substitutes.
Don’t be fooled by other practices that give only a single “pass” with the machine or only treat “part” of
the face with a machine that is not a true IPL machine.
What is a IPL treatment like?
Each IPL treatment takes about 30-45 minutes. Patients tolerate the non-invasive procedure very well.
Those with more sensitive skin may use a topical anesthetic, applied 30 minutes before the procedure. Before
treatment, a cold mist is applied to the area treated, and you may be given dark glasses to protect your eyes
from the bright light. During the treatment, you will hear a beep each time the machine is used. Afterwards,
for a few minutes or hours, the skin may be flushed and appear irritated. Brown spots will actually be slightly
darker at first. These initial effects usually fade in within hours, but can occasionally last for a few days.
How is IPL Photorejuvenation performed?
Before treatment, a cold mist is usually applied to the area to be treated, and you may be given dark glasses
to shield your eyes from the bright light.
During treatment, the smooth glass surface of the IPL handpiece is gently applied to your skin, delivering
pulses of light to the area being treated. IPL treatments are usually considered pain-free, but an anesthetic
cream can be used if you find the light pulses at all uncomfortable. Treatment sessions usually last about 20
minutes, and a complete program usually includes four to six sessions.
After treatment, you can return to your normal routines and activities immediately. Occasionally, there may
be signs of treatment such as redness or blotchiness that can last from a few hours to a few days. You will see
gradual improvement from each session, resulting in a dramatic improvement by the end of your treatment program.
Results are long-lasting, usually a year or longer. The treated skin is more sunsensitive for two to three weeks
and is not usually done when people have a tan.
What are the expected results after IPL Photorejuvenation treatment?
Following IPL there is a gradual decrease in overall redness, flushing and acne-like breakouts. Treated skin
will become smoother with a reduction in fine wrinkles and pore size as well as a fading of sun spots or uneven
pigmentation. In time, the results are smoother, healthier, younger-appearing skin.
Is IPL Photorejuvenation safe?
IPL is non-invasive and very safe. You can usually return directly to work and apply makeup immediately. You
can resume all your activities (except sun exposure) immediately. Very rarely, temporary mild bruising or blistering
may occur in the treated areas, which will resolve in a few days.
